| NDCC Technology Challenge Summit - June 16-17, 2009 |
Objective: Gain industry consensus for top pre-competitive materials technology development areas that NDCC should focus on. Participants: Lockheed Martin Aeronautics (Skunk Works) Rolls-Royce (Liberty Works, Indianapolis) Raytheon Zyvex Bell Helicopter Textron Texas Instruments Boeing (Phantom Works, St. Louis) Discussion facilitator: Bob Helms - former President and CEO, SEMATECH Format: Dinner/discussion led by Bob Helms - SEMATECH'S watershed approach to pre-competitive collaboration for technology innovation and development. Full day brainstorming session - agree on top pre-competitive materials technology areas for NDCC focus. Consensus Outcome/Top Priorities*: 1. Sensor systems - small, embedded, smart and able to survive in a hostile environment. 2. Structural materials - lighter, stronger, stiffer, including alloys and synthetic materials. 3. Lightweight, highly conductive wire and antennas. 4. Thermal management. 5. Energy harvest and storage. * Desire - advanced materials available and affordable in the Aerospace Defense supply chain.
